Job Description


We are hiring on behalf of one of our clients, an import and export company, seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, supporting tax and audit processes, and preparing financial reports to assist management in strategic decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Taxation & Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare withholding tax, VAT, employee income tax, and pension summaries for monthly tax declarations.
  • Prepare and submit monthly purchase and sales summaries directly on the ERCA online system (TASS).
  • Support the preparation of VAT or other statutory returns by compiling calculated figures and archiving supporting records.
  • Ensure strict compliance with national accounting standards and financial regulations.

Financial Record Keeping & Ledger Maintenance

  • Maintain financial records and general ledgers by recording transactions, journal entries, and adjustments accurately and timely.
  • Post journal entries and manage the general ledger system utilizing Peachtree software.
  • Assist with month-end tasks including accruals, prepayments, and ledger close activities.
  • Maintain the company's fixed asset register and process depreciation schedules as directed.
  • Manage petty cash funds and process internal reimbursements in strict line with corporate policy.

Invoicing, Accounts & Reconciliations

  • Prepare and process invoices, bills, expense reports, and other financial documents, ensuring proper documentation and authorization.
  • Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial accounts to guarantee accuracy and consistency.
  • Record customer receipts and support accounts receivable operations, including statement management and client reconciliations.
  • Support payroll administration by providing necessary data inputs and financial reconciliations.

Auditing, Reporting & Operations

  • Prepare accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with audit preparation by collating, organizing, and delivering requested schedules, documentation, and evidence.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical record-keeping systems.
  • Complete necessary operational and financial tasks both inside and outside the office, including administrative support as required.

About You (Qualifications & Experience)

Requirements:

  • Experience: 1 to 2 years of progressive experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role, ideally within a structured finance team.
  • Technical Skills: Competent with spreadsheets (MS Excel), standard office applications, and proficient in using Peachtree software.
  • Core Knowledge: Good understanding of basic accounting principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and basic financial/business analysis.
  • Proven ability to reliably meet strict deadlines and manage multiple compliance tasks under supervision.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for internal team collaboration and external stakeholder interactions.
