Job Description


Role Purpose

The Health and Nutrition Officer will lead, coordinate, and implement health and nutrition interventions under World Vision Ethiopia at the woreda level. The position ensures that all activities are well planned, effectively delivered, and properly monitored in line with national health policies and internationally recognized protocols. The officer will work closely with the Woreda Health Office, health facility staff, community leaders, and other partners to strengthen coordination and integration of services. Capacity building will be a core responsibility, including organizing trainings and providing mentorship for Health Workers (HWs), Health Extension Workers (HEWs), and community volunteers.


Major Responsibilities

Assessments and Situation Analysis

  • Participate in health and nutrition assessments and conduct rapid needs assessments in emergency contexts
  • Lead the delivery of essential primary health care services
  • Support early detection and response through disease surveillance and outbreak reporting
  • Strengthen community health education and ensure proper utilization of critical medicines and nutrition supplies

Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Management

  • Support the Woreda Health Office in developing response plans for emergencies
  • Contribute to surveillance and reporting under the Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) framework

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare weekly nutrition updates and contribute to assessment reports
  • Document trainings, community sanitation campaigns, and project success stories

Internal and External Coordination

  • Participate in external coordination mechanisms at various levels
  • Provide updates on WVE health and nutrition activities in coordination meetings
  • Liaise with international and local partners regarding health and nutrition activities

Required Professional Experience

  • Minimum five years working experience with NGOs in Emergency Health and Nutrition programs

Required Education, Training, License, Registration, and Certification

  • Master's degree in Public Health or Nutrition with a clinical health background from accredited universities or health colleges
  • Certificates in related training are also required

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in the management of outbreak diseases and malnutrition
  • Demonstrated skills in CMAM/IMAM program planning, implementation, and monitoring
  • Excellent training, facilitation, and negotiation skills
  • Strong adherence to World Vision values and the ability to work effectively in challenging environments
  • Prepared to live and work in a remote and uncertain security environment
