ActionAid
ActionAid is a global federation working for a world free from poverty and injustice.
We want to see a just, fair and sustainable world, in which everybody enjoys the right to a life of dignity, and freedom from poverty and oppression. So we work to achieve social justice and gender equality, and to eradicate poverty.
Our Strategy & Approach
Our strategy is to build international momentum for social, economic and environmental justice, driven by people living in poverty and exclusion. In practice, this means working closely with:
People living in poverty and exclusion
Civil society organisations
Social movements
Supporters
Together, we deliver grassroots programmes, provide emergency relief and campaign for things such as women’s economic rights, tax justice and climate justice.
Core Areas of Focus
Our work falls into four broad areas:
1. Women
2. Politics and economics
3. Land and climate
4. Emergencies
We have a particular focus on women’s rights; it’s a thread that runs through all our work.
History and Structure
1972: Founded as a charity in the UK, soon growing its presence in countries around the world.
1990s: Adopted our human rights-based approach to development.
2003: ActionAid International was formed to provide the global secretariat for the ActionAid federation of country offices. The Constitution of ActionAid International can be accessed here.
Our head office is in Johannesburg, South Africa, and we also have hubs in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
This is our international website, where we share inspiring stories from around the federation, bold thought-leadership and practical tools that catalyse change. You can visit any of our websites to find out more about the work of ActionAid offices around the world, and how you can get involved. We also have a Global Leadership Team, comprising some staff from ActionAid International, and a number of country directors from around the world. You can learn more about this team here.
> Our Core Belief: We believe in the power in people. If we can support people to know, claim and defend their rights, the world will be a fairer place.

A Mission of Healing and Hope
At Hope Walks, we believe that quality medical treatment and compassionate care are inseparable. Following the example of Christ, we serve with love—sharing the Gospel through both our words and our dedicated service to those in need.
Empowering Local Transformation
We empower local healthcare professionals to provide free, holistic clubfoot care for families navigating the challenges of this treatable disability. By partnering with and training staff at national and faith-based hospitals and rehabilitation centers, we build sustainable, scalable models of care across the globe.
A Vision of Freedom
Our goal is to treat clubfoot before a child ever takes their first step. By intervening early, we:
Eliminate physical disability at its onset.
Foster independence, allowing children to flourish socially and emotionally.
Uplift families, removing the economic and social burdens that clubfoot can impose.
Our Legacy of Grace
Established in 2018 to glorify God, Hope Walks began as a specialized program and has grown into a global force for restoration. To date, our team has touched the lives of nearly 160,000 children, ensuring they have the opportunity to realize their God-given potential and experience the transformative love of Christ.
