Job Description


Under the direct supervision of the WPE/CP Program Manager, the Protection-MHPSS Officer will ensure the quality of integrated WPE/CP and MHPSS activities. This includes case management (GBV) services, psychological intervention, Protection assessment and response (CDI), GBVIMS, and implementing community-based mental health and psychosocial support. The position holder will promote multi-sectoral services in Bordede woreda, supervising empowerment activities for women and girls while adhering to survivor-centered approaches and GBV/CP guiding principles.

Major Responsibilities

Technical Intervention & Strategy

  • Participate in CP/GBV/MHPSS rapid assessments and contribute to the integrated protection-MHPSS intervention strategy.
  • Facilitate SH+ group psychological intervention sessions and monitor improvement.
  • Implement community-based, focused, and non-specialized psychosocial services.
  • Enhance participation of women and girls at Women’s and Girls’ Safe Spaces (WGSS) and MHPSS centers.
  • Identify integration areas with other sectors (Livelihood, WASH, Health) to improve inclusion.

Case Management & Data Quality

  • Manage, monitor, and supervise GBV-related cases by strictly adhering to guiding principles.
  • Ensure proper documentation of reported incidents utilizing GBVIMS tools (consent, intake, action plans, etc.).
  • Follow strict data protection protocols and confidentiality.
  • Assist in entering data into the GBVIMS/CPIMS database and share quality reports monthly.

Training & Supervision

  • Recruit, supervise, and capacitate social workers and community volunteers.
  • Train frontline workers on basic psychosocial support skills, PFA, and trauma-informed care.
  • Provide specialized support for adult women and adolescent survivors through daily mentoring and weekly meetings.
  • Supervise activity budget utilization (BvA), M&E, and logistical needs.

Coordination & Advocacy

  • Build relationships with protection partners and conduct mentoring sessions for service providers (health, legal, psychosocial).
  • Work with partners to implement GBV Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and referral pathways.
  • Participate in monthly protection coordination meetings, safety audits, and assessments.
  • Assist in the development and pre-testing of appropriate IEC and BCC materials.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives to establish team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion.
  • Develop ongoing learning and honest dialogue to strengthen safeguarding and adherence to IRC values.

Job Requirements

Educational Background

  • Diploma, BSc, or MSc in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, Women’s Studies, or related fields.
  • Experience: 5 years for Diploma, 2 years for BSc, or 1 year for MSc.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Basic supervisory and managerial skills with the ability to motivate field workers.
  • Clear understanding of gender, power abuse, and issues surrounding violence against women.
  • Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization.
  • Ability to maintain composure and prioritize multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Email.
  • Related field experience in social service provision; NGO experience is a plus.

Language Skills

  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of the local language is advantageous.
