Village Enterprise’s mission is to end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship, innovation, and collective action. By empowering women, refugees, and youth to launch small businesses and savings groups, our cost-effective model provides dignified and sustainable pathways for people to lift themselves and their families out of extreme poverty—for good.
To date, Village Enterprise has:
- Trained 287,000 first-time entrepreneurs.
- Launched 87,000 businesses.
- Impacted more than 1.8 million lives across Africa.
Village Enterprise operates in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, with a goal to lift 20 million people out of extreme poverty by 2030.
Project Overview: HARVEST
Village Enterprise and HereWeGrow are partnering to address the interwoven challenges of poverty, gender inequity, and climate vulnerability facing smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia’s Keffa Zone.
HARVEST (Households Advancing Resilience, Value chains, and Sustainable Transformation) is a three-year project in the Gimbo and Shisho Ende districts. The project integrates Village Enterprise’s 12-month poverty graduation model—seed capital grants, financial training, and mentoring—with climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and market linkages.
Project Impact Goals:
- Train 8,100 entrepreneurs.
- Launch 2,700 small businesses.
- Lift 52,000 individuals from poverty.
Responsibilities: Core Roles
- Respondent Mapping: Walk through the community to find and map specific households for interviews.
- Conduct Interviews: Ask survey questions exactly as written and record answers accurately on a mobile device (experience with Taro Works is an advantage).
- Technical Tasks: Use devices to mark exact GPS locations and sync/upload data at the end of each day.
- Community Engagement: Introduce the team to the community and ensure every participant provide informed consent.
- Translation: Correctly translate questions from English into the local language while maintaining the original meaning.
- Safeguarding: Continuously sensitize participants on safeguarding policies and report any incidents in program operations.
- Reporting: Provide verbal and written progress reports on processes and challenges.

Requirements
Skills and Competencies
- Flexible Schedule: Willingness to work different hours to find respondents.
- Adaptable: Ability to handle changes in work plans or environments.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to quickly learn data collection software.
- Physical Fitness: Able and willing to walk long distances in rural, outdoor areas daily.
- Language: Fluency in local languages used in Kaffagna is mandatory.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum of a Diploma in any discipline; experience in research is an asset.
- Data Quality: Understanding of the elements of data quality and mobile data collection.
- Locality: Preference given to candidates staying within Shisho Inde and Gimbo Woredas.
- Documentation: Must attach an introductory letter from your Kebele Chairperson (stamped with a working telephone number).
