Kelem International School (KIS) is a Cognia-accredited, not-for-profit school offering education from Pre-KG to Grade 10. Originally established under the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia in 1946, the school reopened as an independent institution in July 2019.

Job Summary

The kitchen assistant will be responsible for taking an ongoing inventory of ingredients to ensure nothing is running low, cutting up vegetables, preparing side dishes and getting salads ready for special events and regular dining hours.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up for groups, including setting tables and ensuring that table accessories are in place.
  • Maintain the kitchen by cleaning prep areas before and after use and making sure that all knives and critical equipment are clean.
  • Monitor side dish ingredients and report inventory levels to the head chef or assistant chef at regular intervals throughout the day.
  • Work with wait staff to ensure that each order has the proper types and amounts of side dishes.
  • Prepare snacks and ensure that any special requests for occasions desserts are prepared.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Level III Kitchen Assistant certificate with COC fully certified.
  • 1 year work experience.
  • English language proficiency both in written and verbal.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Police certificate.
  • Medical certificate.

Required Skills

  • Hospitality.
