Job Overview

  • Job Title: Gender & Nutrition Advisor
  • Contract Type: 6 Months (Full-time, 37.5 hours per week)
  • Location: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to Field Offices.
  • Reports to: Project Officer
  • Salary: As per SHA Scale

Job Purpose

The Gender & Nutrition Advisor serves as the technical resource person for Nutrition and Gender within the SHA Ethiopia Programme. The role involves ensuring strong nutrition and gender elements throughout the project cycle—from concept development and proposal writing to programme delivery, M&E, and evaluation. The goal is to promote technical excellence and innovative development practices, specifically nutrition-sensitive agriculture and gender mainstreaming.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Resource & Programme Support

  • Advise on the design and implementation of humanitarian and development programmes to ensure they are gender-transformative and nutrition-sensitive.
  • Conduct capacity building, training, and mentoring for SHA staff and partners to bridge knowledge gaps.
  • Develop and review SHA nutrition and gender policies, guidelines, and strategies for the Ethiopia country programme.
  • Collaborate with M&E staff to design tools for collecting and analysing nutrition and gender data to measure impact.
  • Conduct gender analysis along agricultural value chains to identify constraints and devise solutions for women’s economic advancement.

Networking & Advocacy

  • Represent SHA in relevant clusters and coordination forums (Nutrition/MANTF, Protection Working Group, AAP Working Group).
  • Liaise with Government Ministries, UN agencies (UNICEF, WHO), and NGOs to strengthen SHA’s visibility.
  • Facilitate policy advocacy at local and national levels to influence nutrition and gender-responsive laws.

Learning, Innovation & Safeguarding

  • Document success stories and case studies in coordination with the Communications team.
  • Serve as the Safeguarding Focal Point and champion for Accountability to Affected People (AAP).
  • Raise awareness on the Code of Conduct and PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse).
  • Manage safeguarding disclosures and maintain local referral mapping for survivors.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Science, or Gender Studies with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in the same fields with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of specific experience in designing/implementing nutrition or gender projects.
  • Demonstrated track record in cluster coordination meetings at national or sub-national levels.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong administrative skills (records, files, and database maintenance).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to field locations.
