Job Description


The Finance and Admin Officer will be responsible for the financial health of the organization by managing its financial procedures. The duties include planning budgets, participating in audits, monitoring transactions, preparing invoices, and providing support in various human resources functions.

To succeed in this role, the officer must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of financial policies, procedures, and systems.


Key Responsibilities

Finance Responsibilities (60%)

  • Assist the Finance Coordinator in ensuring that timely and accurate payments are made.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of payment documents in compliance with Samaritan’s Purse (SP) and donor policies.
  • Facilitate staff members with Cash Advance (CA) requests and timely clearance/settlement with proper documentation.
  • Verify the completeness of supporting documents, including the authenticity of signatures, attendance sheets, and payments to casuals or volunteers.
  • Record all vouchers into the transaction spreadsheet on a daily basis for review by the Finance Coordinator.
  • Process petty cash transactions daily, ensuring timely replenishment and cooperating with scheduled cash counts per SP policy.
  • Prepare all payments and ensure they are properly coded and supported by relevant documents.
  • Assist the Finance Coordinator with monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Ensure all financial documents are properly numbered, filed, and stamped as "Paid" before archiving.
  • Ensure timely preparation of taxes and deposit them into the bank.
  • Visit the bank for the necessary collection and submission of financial documents.
  • Assist with the timely scanning and uploading of all completed financial documents to the online platform.

Administrative Responsibilities (40%)

  • Implement general administrative systems, procedures, and filing protocols.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the line manager or immediate supervisor.

Education / Experience Needed

  • Education: BA in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study.
  • Experience: 3–4 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with NGOs will be an added advantage.

Language & Skills Required

  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Amharic is required. Knowledge of the regional language is required; knowledge of any other national language is a plus.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and reasoning abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, stewardship, and a commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality regarding contracts and salaries.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Fluid security context with potential travel in-country, exposure to moderate noise levels, and hot/human weather conditions.
