Job Description


Role Purpose

The Driver will provide transportation support to Eliminate Tuberculosis from Ethiopia (ETBE) project staff and visitors for project-related activities. Deliver program materials and equipment to project implementation areas (regions, zones, woredas and health facilities) as appropriate. The Driver maintains project vehicles and log of vehicle use, cleans and follows up on vehicles services timeframe for the wellbeing of the vehicles in conformity with MSH's Safety and Security Policies.


Specific Responsibilities

Driving

  • Demonstrate professional driving competence — drive at a safe speed, drive carefully around people, carts, and animals, apply brakes appropriately, respect other drivers and adhere to Ethiopia traffic rules and regulations
  • Consume fuel efficiently and effectively; update the supervisor on the status of fuel consumption
  • Timely request A Service PR and Abyssinia card refill request
  • Take driving safety measures — ensure working of safety belt, availability of all tools & kits, first aid kits, fire extinguisher, working of wipers and lamps, and suitable parking of vehicle. Ensure wear of safety belt of each passenger before and while driving
  • Submit appropriate and correct mileage logs and reports on time and authenticated
  • Stay well informed on travel area security and road information
  • Maintain good working relationships with all project personnel and passengers and provide timely and friendly support
  • Ensure punctuality — be on time, with fuel, and maintain a neat and clean vehicle

Handling of Documents Among Offices

  • Deliver postal or other messages to governmental and non-governmental organizations
  • Distribute different items throughout the country as needed by the organization
  • Distribute medical equipment and other donations to assigned organizations, collect models 19 documents, printing materials, finance settlement documents, MSH transfer agreements, supporting letters and others
  • Provide financial support in assigned zones and travel to other staff, including at least 6 different zonal events, 2 zonal review meetings and 4 one-to-one meetings
  • Maintain good working relationships with all project personnel and passengers and provide timely and friendly support

Regular Maintenance & Recordings

  • Regularly replace oil every 5,000 km by drivers after PR approved, and every 10,000 km request PR then approved by regional managers, prepare work order by fleet department in selected garage
  • Elaborate on problems or maintenance needs in PR before approval
  • Properly provide the vehicle to the assigned garage for interior and exterior parts
  • After maintenance, receive all interior and exterior parts and collect replaced parts in the office
  • Collect receipts from the garage and send them to the operations group
  • Maintain proper and regular log sheet mileage registration, fuel refill amount, consumption, litres added, cash or card information, and register every trip
  • Maintain garage replacement part registration in the front part of log sheet

Handling of Assigned Vehicle

  • Ensure neatness of vehicle before every travel
  • Park safely under proper conditions during day and nighttime
  • Follow up on vehicle technical condition
  • Follow up on annual inspection, first aid, and fire extinguisher condition
  • Use properly equipment under the vehicle's tool kit — jack, handle, main and spare tire, owner manual, service manual, etc.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, receives needed repairs and complies with regular maintenance schedule

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide logistical services during meetings, within the office and maintain positive interpersonal relations
  • Accept additional administrative responsibilities
  • Maintain good working relationships with all project personnel and passengers and provide timely and friendly support
  • Ensure punctuality — be on time, with fuel, and maintain a neat and clean vehicle
  • Maintain a good driving record
  • Fill in monthly timesheet, annual smart sheet and goals properly
  • Facilitate every finance-related issue including attendance, registration, advance request, TF, expense statements, and PRs
  • Remain compliant with and submit MSH rules and regulations for both the driver and passengers

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma is required
  • Valid driving license and excellent driving record for 4WD vehicles
  • Previous experience with USG-funded projects is preferred

Experience

  • 5+ years of work experience in similar programs in Ethiopia; previous experience with USG-funded projects is an advantage

Knowledge and Skills

  • Qualifications in auto-mechanics is an added advantage
  • Computer literacy is an advantage
  • Defensive driving certificate is an advantage

  • Willingness to travel to project implementation sites and regional offices as appropriate
